MEET THE
MUI TEAM
It all started with one. Six Senses Laamu began life with just one marine biologist in 2011. With new hires and interns becoming full-time staff over time, the marine biology team started to grow.
Inspired by the work done by other conservationists, in 2014 we decided to bring together some of the greatest minds in marine conservation to find innovative solutions to Laamu’s most pressing issues. That year we developed our first partnership with an NGO: The Manta Trust, who began to study the year-round manta ray population in Laamu. In 2016, the Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) joined the team onsite to research and advise on local and national management plans of fisheries and marine protected areas. Finally, in 2018, Six Senses teamed up with the Olive Ridley Project to study the populations of endangered sea turtles in Laamu.
We’re now one of the largest marine biology and sustainability teams at any resort in the Maldives. The MUI team consists of Six Senses Laamu’s resident marine biologists and interns, the resort’s communications, sustainability and community outreach manager, and resident staff from our three partner NGOs.
